SOLIHIYA

Updated: Jan 4, 2022

December 15,2021, I went to Quiapo under the bridge to buy Solihiya strips, I bought it for 200 pesos. I started to remove excess fiber/strips. My father helps me to make the frame. December 31,2021 in the afternoon he started to measure, cut and stick it. I have 12x12 and 6x6 size of the frame. During the next day, he painted it in gold and I find in different store to buy gun tacker. January 2,2022, I started to make solihiya in a frame, it's not easy to do it. I'm struggling on how to insert the string in alternate ways. As time goes on, I notice the tightness of the string as it goes to the end. I finish the 2 lines, but in making the eye part, it’s hard to insert the string, it got broken every time I put it. I try it three times, but it always failed. The 4th time I tried it turns out that the first string broke. So, I decided to remain the cross lines to stay the strings in their places and disregard the eye part.

January 2,2022, I tried to make solihiya using straw, but it turns out failed. It's not exactly 12x12 so you need to adjust the size of it. The staple of each corner slowly removed once I insert the new straw across it. So, I decided to not continue the solihiya using straw.

January 4,2022, this is my 3rd time to make solihiya using milk cotton yarn, adhesive tape and scissors. To be honest, it is easy to make using these materials. I want to try different materials in making solihiya but this one is the perfect one for me because I made it with the eye.
